Domaine Chante Cigale, located within the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, has been owned and operated by the Sabon Favier family for several generations. It covers 50 hectares of vineyards classified in the Châteauneuf-du- Pape appellation. The 2018 Chateauneuf-du-Pape white landed 90 from Wine Enthusiast, calling its “flavors of lime and tangerine with a cutting mineral edge.” While the 2019 was given an 89 from Wine Spectator for its “bold, forward style, with a mix of nectarine, apricot and peach flavors.” The 2017 &nbsp;Chateauneuf-du-Pape red is a spotlight wine to have within any portfolio.  The Extrait red push the envelope among Chateauneuf-du-Pape wines. The 2017 Extrait red had its “peppery notes of anise, charred earth and bramble accent blackberry and raspberry flavors” attain 94 by Wine Enthusiast. Wine Spectator went further, crowning it 95 thanks to “a gorgeous display of mulled plum, blackberry reduction and black cherry pate de fruit flavors that glide through.”

The 2020 Châteauneuf-du-Pape White from Chante Cigale has received a 92 rating from Wine Spectator. Black cherry and damson fruit, it's concentrated but not overly full-bodied, with good acidity which completes the package. The 2019 Pi, a Ch&acirc;teauneuf-du-Pape, was awarded a 94 rating. Wine Enthusiast underlines the vintage&rsquo;s &ldquo;deep tones of blackberry and preserved raspberry&rdquo; that &ldquo;are plump and creamy on the palate&rdquo;. Presenting &ldquo;ripe yet lifted by veins of crushed salt, stone and peppery spice&rdquo;, the wine is described a &ldquo;deftly composed&rdquo; and &ldquo;penetrating&rdquo;. It &ldquo;should improve well through 2035&rdquo;.

For the 2019 Red, also a Ch&acirc;teauneuf-du-Pape, Wine Enthusiast gave 93 points. &ldquo;Taut, bristling tannins and a rim of tobacco lend an upright feel to rich blackberry and black-fig flavors in this wine&rdquo;. The vintage is &ldquo;a Grenache-dominant red blended with Syrah, Mourv&egrave;dre and Cinsault&rdquo;, which make it a &ldquo;smartly balanced wine calibrating power and ripeness against bright acidity and twist of savory resin, tar and coffee grinds&rdquo;. A great improvement through 2030 will take palce.

A seductive white, offering an expressive mix of honeycomb, quince, ginger and yellow apple edged in salty mineral, with a note of brioche. The full palate shows nice restraint, with a firming beam of bitter pith and salty minerality. Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Picpoul, Bourboulenc and Clairette.

Broad and juicy in feel, featuring

As to the reds, the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape has agorgeous nose of ripe red and black fruits, smokedgame, iron, and some tapenade to go with medium tofull-bodied richness and depth on the palate. It’s oneheck of a great base cuvée and certainly stands up tothe smaller production special cuvées. The blend is 65%Grenache, 20% Syrah, and the rest Mourvedre andCinsault that was partially destemmed and brought upmostly in concrete tanks. Drink this total charmer overthe coming 10-12 years.

Good sense of freshness and acidity, with a point of lemon o the nectarine fruit . The oak is quite forthright, but the freshness and acidity help to bring balance. Remarkable intensity of flavour considering the relatively medium-bodied size. Ends fresh, with juicy , citrusy acidity into the saline , mineral and cleansing finish. Fermented with natural yeastsin demi-muids, then matured in the same barrels for 10 months.

Quite ripe, with a lush and seductive feel to its nearly exotic mix of loganberry, plum and fig fruit that glides through with ease, picking up alder, savory and garrigue details along the way. Ends with a late tarry tug that gives this good spine.

The 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Extrait is based on an interesting split of 60% Mourvedre and 40% Grenache that comes from very old vines and the pebbly soils of the Piedlong lieu-dit. It spent two years in old barrels. Ripe black and blue fruits, liquid smoke, graphite, and spring flower notes define the nose, and it’s medium to full-bodied, concentrated, and backward, with building tannins and some obvious oak. It needs a solid 2-4 years of bottle age and should evolve for at least 10-15 years.
